WWP Africa Congo Tour - 7 September 2008 WWP Superstars Terry Meddoux, Ananzi, Steve Eden, Jason Steele, Black Smith, WWP President Abdul Kadar and Katanga International Show organizer Tony T arrived in Lubumbashi in DRC at around 5pm on Friday the 5th of September. We were welcomed by the local press as well as the president of professional wrestling in Lubumbashi Mr. Suzuki or as Terry calls him Mr. Toyota. We were taken to our Hotel in Central Lubumbashi and explained that we were to do a live interview on the Fidell show. The interview was a heated one with Terry Meddoux promising to destroy the local wrestling hero Maraboo who signature is a mystical glove that gives him special powers. Saturday we did a 2 hour parade of the town of Lubumbashi this was an experience of note having thousands of people clambering to just get a glimpse of the WWP wrestlers was something to behold. On Saturday evening was the show with over 10 thousand spectators in hand the show breakdown was as follows: Black Smith vs. Lebombayo: Black Smith is a class act and a veteran in the squared circle his opponent who clearly had limited wrestling ability however was as hard as nails continuously tried to out power Black Smith who continuously used his expert amateur background to out wit his opponent at every turn, after tiring his opponent down and climbing to the top ropes followed by a huge frog splash finished his opponent with the three count. Jason Steele vs. Samson and Remitanga (Handicap Match) Due to the size and shape of the Rookie Jason Steele the local wrestling president insisted on a handicap match with a smirk on his face Jason Steele accepted and entered the ring against his opponents, out powering his opponents at every turn with a devastating combination of power moves the Congolese wrestlers resorted to dirty tactics using a weapon in the form of a police baton unfortunately for them the man of steel took control of the weapon and beat the living hell out of his opponents. After a double suplex and elimination of Samson, Jason Steele picked up the win with running powerslam on Lebombayo. Ananzi vs. Mr. America This match was one for the books as the WWP wrestlers realized the lack of skills of their Congolese counterparts and resorted to a more Japanese style of wrestling with a more stiff approach to the matches. Mr. America who is a champion from Kinshasa was an uninvited guest at the show however after a few encounters with him on local television WWP insisted that he be included on the show and it was decided that Ananzi would face this unknown wrestler. The match started very hard as Ananzi had no idea of the skills of Mr. America as the match progressed it was evident that the man could wrestle and how he completely out shone all other Congolese wrestlers and in my opinion this was the match of the evening with some excellent technical wrestling on show from both combatants and after numerous near falls Ananzi captured the win with a quick pin. The crowd was livid and was one second away from a riot as Ananzi took the Congo National title and returned to the locker room however Ananzi returned minutes later with title in hand and offered a hand shake and presented the title back to Mr. America as this was never sanctioned as a title defense. Steve Eden vs. Congo Rambo Congo Rambo, who choked out Ananzi in the previous tour, strongly declined meeting Ananzi for a second time we suspect he knew a savage beating was on its way, WWP President Abdul Kadar insisted that he meet amateur wrestling machine Steve Eden a man who is not know for his finesse but his brute wrestling skills learnt from years of amateur wrestling. This match was not pretty at all with Steve Eden definitely giving Congo Rambo a wrestling lesson he would never forget unfortunately Congo Rambo had some tricks up his sleeve and using some outside interference took the win. Terry Meddoux vs. Maraboo Now I know that Maraboo is a local legend in the Congo but the man is pushing sixty and comes from an era where wrestling was more about mystic voodoo powers then actual wrestling and after the last encounter Terry was little wary of the mystic powers of the glove of Maraboo I mean this is deepest darkest Africa this type of thing would never fly over here. The match did not display any major wrestling moves or even a simple arm drag however Terry did deliver an awesome slam that shook some of the old teeth out of Maraboo’s jaw after this Maraboo “oh surprise” pulled out his Voodoo enchanted glove that Terry blocked and threw into the crowd. The fight was taken outside and after a battle to get the glove back both wrestlers were counted out for a double DQ. All in all this was a great showing by WWP and Abdul Kadar met with top officials from many different African countries. As for the future lets just say WWP Africa will be touring the DRC again soon as well as 17 additional African countries over the next few months. Viva WWP Africa Viva! Jason Steele |
