BURNING PRIDE - LEGACY OF A CHAMPION
Tornado, the supreme ace of African professional wrestling and one of the most resilient and talented superstars in the world at over forty years of age, will go down as possibly the greatest WWP World Heavyweight Champion in history. During the last few years, Tornado entered a phase in his twenty-year career that few have been able to shake from. Once athletes reach that dreaded stage in their career they begin to grow less competitive. However, Tornado was different. Past the age of forty, despite personal battles and injuries, the legend defied all expectations by performing up to a high standard usually associated with younger competitors in their prime and arguably surpassing most. Once Tornado re-claimed his title as lord of the ring by capturing the WWP World Heavyweight Title again in mid-2009, he was better than everyone else. He had blown the competition away and silenced the critics. The number one professional wrestler on the entire continent was Tornado, the man who had unmasked in the late 90s when his best friend Pink Panther passed away and who had been given the mask from the legend Danie Brits in the late 80s as part of heritage and tradition. Tornado had become the man.
Tornado's heart beats with burning pride. His feats of high-flying brilliance and technical mastery are products of being tutored by the best during his tours of Mexico, United Kingdom, Japan and other parts of the world in his early career. Tornado understands the human anatomy and knows how to manipulate it to his silent advantage. The TornadoSault - a move so devastatingly induced by the World Heavyweight Champion that the crashing mass of his weight coming down onto a fallen opponent places them into a sleep long enough for the three-count to occur - has been his item of absolute execution for as long as he has battled in the squared circle, and he has used it in the form of the Asai Moonsault off the middle ropes many times. The Sleeper Suplex - so deadly in its finite consummation that Tornado hardly pulls out this big gun - is the drop on the head no opponent wants to endure, the knockout to end knockouts. The Air Raid Crash - an upside-down drop on the upper neck and back - is one of Tornado's deadliest transitions heading towards the finish. His Hurricanranna variations leave opponents in a momentary daze, while his knowledge of Suplexes puts them off guard and nursing injuries the following days and weeks. Too vast to mention is the legend's huge arsenal of maneuvres, accentuated by his incredible upper body strength.
Tornado's fighting spirit is unmatched in WWP and hence one of the many reasons he is the World Heavyweight Champion. Throughout his twenty-plus years in the ring he has had to fight off giants of immense stature. In these legendary matches he never submitted or threw in the towel, but gave every part of himself and endured past the aches and pains in great displays of personal pride and fervour. In 2009, Tornado showed amazing competitive spirit during the first "100% De Dhana Dhan" season, winning almost every fight until another giant stood in his path to glory, the monster named "Goonga". Viewers watched in awe as Tornado combated the brute strength of the goliath and even delivered a stunning Sleeper Suplex to knock him partially unconscious. A follow-up with a Tornadosault was not enough and Goonga went on to win the grand finale and the 100% Championship. Despite the loss, Tornado remained the WWP World Heavyweight Champion and received a great amount of respect for his showing.
Few men stand as large and imposing as WWP's newest addition to the roster, Giant Warrior. At over 7 feet and weighing well over 300 pounds, Giant Warrior is the largest competitor to ever set foot on African soil. Tornado's biggest challenge yet could be that of Warrior and he is well aware of it as evidenced by his interference in late January during Warrior's WWP debut and their past history. Giant Warrior and Tornado were arch-rivals in the 90s and the ghosts of the past have re-awakened. Tornado has held the WWP World Heavyweight Championship since July, 2009 - could we see his long reign come to an end with the emergence of this new threat? No matter what the consequence or result, Tornado will continue to defend the Championship with burning pride and undying passion. Sacrifice is a fighter's greatest victory, and Tornado has sacrificed the world to be at the top.
